Assistant Fire Chiefs
Assistant Fire Chief Marti Newport was born in Ft. Pierce and is a proud graduate of C.A. Moore Elementary and Ft. Pierce Westwood High. She was hired by the fire district in 1994 and has proudly served the citizens of St. Lucie County for over 26 years. As assistant fire chief, she supervises personnel; develops policy and procedures, provides professional development and leadership and participates in the budget planning and management process. This executive level position is responsible for providing oversight of the following areas: health and safety, human resources, community risk reduction, logistics, fleet maintenance, risk management, public information, international accreditation, strategic planning, compliance, and honor guard. Her experience includes serving in operations, communications, training and safety, quality assurance, and in finance as the interim clerk-treasurer.
Her education includes a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Nova Southeastern University, a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Columbia Southern University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Management from Warner Southern College. In addition, she has an Associate of Arts Degree, an Associate in Science Degree in Emergency Medical Services and an Associate in Science Degree in Fire Science Technology; all awarded from Indian River State College. Currently, she is pursuing a Ph.D. in emergency management.
Assistant Fire Chief Newport is a graduate of the United States Fire Administration’s National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Program in Emmitsburg, Maryland. She is a designated chief fire officer and chief training officer from the Center of Public Safety Excellence and is a peer evaluator for the organization. She is also a State of Florida fire officer I and fire instructor III.
Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Lee began his career with St. Lucie County Fire District in 1997 after serving in the U.S. Navy where he was trained in aircraft firefighting, shipboard helicopter firefighting and shipboard firefighting and flood control. While employed with the fire district, Jeff returned to school and received his Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science from Columbia Southern University. In 2010, Jeff was awarded the Firefighter of the Year and in 2011, the Treasure Coast Fire Chief’s Association named him the Emergency Services Provider of the Year. Jeff has served on the SLCFD Health Trust, is currently a member of the SLCFD Pension Trust, and served in the labor organization as an executive board member, vice president, and the president for 6 years.
Assistant Fire Chief Lee currently leads the SLCFD Operations, Communications, Training, Finance and Information & Technology Divisions. The operations division currently has 383 uniformed firefighters that are housed in 17 fire stations. These are the men and women who are on the streets 24/7/365 to provide fire rescue services to all of St. Lucie County. The communications division is also staffed 24/7/365 and currently has 21 personnel who handle 911 call taking, emergency medical dispatch, and maintain our line of communication with operations. The training division currently has 4 uniformed personnel that are responsible for the initial training and continual education for all of our certified firefighters. Our finance division is responsible for all the fire district’s financial records and includes the ambulance billing department for a combined total of 10 employees. Lastly, our information & technology division has 4 full time employees who maintain all of our computer systems and network.
