Fire Cadet Program
The St. Lucie County Fire District Fire Cadet Program is affiliated with the Florida Fire Chiefs' Association and provides young men and women with an opportunity to explore careers in the fire and emergency medical services professions. Through hands-on training, mentorship, and participation in Fire District activities, cadets develop leadership, teamwork, communication, and decision-making skills while gaining insight into the responsibilities of firefighters and paramedics.
Training
Cadets participate in a structured training program that includes classroom instruction and practical skills development. Under the supervision of Fire District personnel, cadets learn fundamental firefighting techniques, emergency medical skills, fire station operations, and public service responsibilities.
As their training progresses, cadets may observe and assist with approved activities alongside firefighters and paramedics, gaining valuable experience in a safe and controlled environment.
Program Activities
Cadets receive training in a variety of fire and EMS-related skills, including:
- Fire hose operations
- Ladder operations
- Search and rescue techniques
- Basic first aid
- CPR
- Patient assessment
- Fire station operations
- Community outreach and public education
Through these experiences, cadets build confidence, develop leadership abilities, and gain a greater understanding of the fire service profession.
Basic Membership Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be under 19 years of age and currently enrolled in high school
- Be a resident of St. Lucie County
- Have reliable transportation to Cadet Program activities
- Maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA
- Provide report cards each grading period
