When you call 911 for a medical emergency, the St. Lucie County Fire District dispatches a rescue unit staffed and equipped to manage a wide range of medical and traumatic emergencies. Depending on the nature of the incident and the availability of nearby resources, a fire engine may also be dispatched.

Many serious emergencies, such as cardiac events, severe breathing problems, traumatic injuries, and motor vehicle crashes, require more personnel than can be provided by a rescue unit alone. Dispatching additional firefighters ensures that enough trained personnel arrive quickly to provide timely and effective patient care.

This response model follows nationally recognized standards and helps ensure that patients receive the appropriate level of care as quickly as possible.

Many communities have adopted regulations governing the installation of storm shutters to ensure emergency responders can gain access to a structure during an emergency. Storm shutters can delay firefighters' ability to access a building and reach the source of a fire.

At this time, St. Lucie County does not have specific regulations regarding storm shutters. Any future regulations would require approval by the appropriate local governing authority.

Gasoline used for generators should always be stored in approved fuel containers and handled with care. Because gasoline is highly flammable, residents should follow the manufacturer's recommendations for proper storage and use.

Fuel containers should be stored in a well-ventilated area away from living spaces, ignition sources, and direct sunlight. Whenever possible, gasoline should be stored in a detached structure, such as a shed or garage, and never inside a residence.

Fire Incident Reports can be received by calling the Community Risk Reduction Division at 772-621-3322.
